All the Details You Need to Know

The Story Behind This Plant

The Monstera Adansonii is native to the rainforests of Central and South America, where it naturally climbs up giant trees to reach light. The famous fenestrations aren't just for decoration; they are thought to help the plant withstand strong tropical winds and allow light to filter down to its lower leaves.

How to Keep It Happy

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun, which can burn its delicate leaves.
Water: Water thoroughly when the top two inches of soil feel dry. Ensure the pot has excellent drainage.
Humidity: Loves high humidity (50%+), achieved through misting, grouping with other plants, or a humidifier.
Soil: Use a chunky, well draining mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark.
Temperature: Keep it consistently warm, ideally between 18 and 27°C, away from cold drafts.

Popular Monstera Varieties

Monstera Deliciosa – The classic green form with dramatic split leaves.
Monstera Dubia – Shingling leaves that climb flat against surfaces.
Monstera Peru – Compact and low maintenance with deeply textured leaves.
Monstera Thai Constellation – Highly sought after for its cream and green variegation.

Common Questions

Does it need a moss pole?

It doesn't need one, but climbing support encourages larger, more fenestrated leaves as it grows.

How do I treat spider mites or mealybugs?

Check the fronts and backs of leaves often. Spider mites and mealybugs can be treated with insecticidal soap; catching them early makes treatment simple.
