Daycare asks for a blanket that works hard and washes harder. Send this one.

Beluga whales, the Olympic Cauldron, the North Shore mountains — Vancouver in watercolour.

It measures 47 by 119 cm / 47 in — the size that actually holds. The standard hospital blanket measures roughly 112 cm / 44 in; the gap between that and a full-size wrap is exactly where swaddles come undone overnight. On paper, three inches is trivia. In a dark nursery at 3 a.m., it's the whole argument.

Material. Tanboocel® Bamboo Viscose, blended with cotton and woven into open-weave muslin. Tanboocel® is a branded bamboo viscose made through a closed-loop process — third-party verified, with a lower water and chemical footprint than the generic bamboo rayon most brands quietly label "bamboo." It gets softer after the fifth wash than on day one, the opposite of how cotton ages.

The print. Off-white ground with watercolour Vancouver landmarks by Loulou Lollipop artist Sonia Cavallini — beluga whales from the Vancouver Aquarium, the Olympic Cauldron, the North Shore mountains, and Granville Island Market. Part of the World Cities collection.

One blanket, many jobs. The newborn swaddle is the first use. Swaddling ends around 8 to 16 weeks, but the blanket doesn't retire — it moves on to nursing-cover duty, stroller shade, burp cloth, picnic layer. It outlasts the swaddle window by years.

When to stop swaddling. The arms-in swaddle ends the moment the baby shows signs of rolling — usually 8–16 weeks. The Canadian Paediatric Society's guidance is firm on this. Past that point, switch to a 0.5 TOG muslin sleep bag (warm nursery) or a 1.0 TOG TENCEL™ sleep bag (everyday nursery) with arms free.

Adjacent products. Once the swaddle phase ends, the natural next step is a 0.5 TOG Muslin Sleep Bag for warm nurseries or a 1.0 TOG TENCEL™ Sleep Bag for the everyday 21–24°C room.

Care. Machine wash cold and tumble dry low. Tanboocel® takes the dryer better than bamboo rayon, with less pilling and shrinkage over time. Don't bleach; iron on low only if you need to.

Safety & certification. Aligned with Canadian Paediatric Society safe-sleep guidance. Tested to Health Canada's Textile Flammability Regulations, and to CPSIA and ASTM standards. Material certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100. Loulou Lollipop is a Certified B Corporation.

Common questions

When should I stop swaddling my baby?

Stop the arms-in swaddle the moment the baby shows signs of rolling — usually 8–16 weeks. After that, switch to a 0.5 or 1.0 TOG sleep bag with arms free. The Canadian Paediatric Society is firm on this: stop swaddling as soon as your baby shows signs of rolling over.

What size swaddle blanket is best?

47x119 cm / 47 in is the size that holds together. The hospital blanket's 44x44 footprint is the reason home wraps need more fabric to hold. The three-inch difference matters more than it sounds like it should.

Can I use a muslin swaddle as a nursing cover?

Yes. Nursing cover, stroller shade, play mat, burp cloth, summer layer — the post-swaddle résumé. Open-weave muslin breathes well enough that you're not creating a hot pocket while feeding.
